What is Fum? That "Wooden Cigarette-Like Thing" Joe Rogan Talked About

“There’s a thing people are doing now where they’re trying to quit cigarettes. I saw it Advertised on Bridget Phetasy’s show, ‘Dumpster Fire.’ It’s like a wooden cigarette that gives you ‘flavour.’ But it’s not even a cigarette, you don’t even light it. Because people are so accustomed to putting something in their mouth and having this thing they do to relieve stress so as they’re quitting cigarettes you are using this thing to replace cigarettes… it’s called a Fum” -Joe Rogan, The Joe Rogan Experience #1670 with David Sinclair.

These were the words that resonated through our offices the day we found out the host of the world’s largest podcast host had mentioned our product on his show. We were ecstatic to find out that our humble startup, determined to create a better, natural, and safe way to quit smoking was being mentioned to over 11 million people organically.

If you heard about us on the podcast and are reading this, let’s talk about why Fum is the best way to quit, and why it resonates so deeply with the 30,000+ customers out there making better habits.

The Main Three Hurdles of Quitting Smoking

If you, or someone you love, has attempt to quit smoking, they likely struggled with one or all of these three hurdles:

  • Nicotine Withdrawal
  • Hand To Mouth Habit
  • The Oral Sensation of Quitting

Not to mention the social side of quitting , i.e. smoke breaks, social gatherings, and the perceived stress relief associated with cigarettes.

As you quit smoking these hurdles hit differently, but for most it’s a combination of all three.

Let’s talk about the symptoms of quitting.

What to Expect When you Quit Smoking

Nicotine is one of the hardest drugs to quit due to its ease of access, the social acceptance, and the withdrawal symptoms that hit hard.

Quitting nicotine is hard and the withdrawal symptoms can be rougher:

  • Increased appetite
  • Cough
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue; and,
  • Constipation

But, stay with us there is a real good light at the end of this tunnel! And yes, that light is Fum.

Why Fum is the #1 Tool for Quitting Smoking Naturally

Joe Rogan is right, Fum is a great hand to mouth replacement tool, but it’s so much more.

Fum is a natural inhaler providing a similar “pulling” feeling of smoking without any of the negatives. Instead, packed with the benefits of super plants.

Using both the physiological and psychological science behind superplants, we make quitting that much easier. Here’s how it works:

Black Pepper and Nicotine Cravings

First up to bat, the nicotine cravings. Arguably the hardest part of quitting to overcome. There are a number of nicotine focussed tools like gums, lozenges, and nicotine inhalers, but they still have nicotine. The hope with these tools is to slowly wean you down and off of the drug.

In 1994, Jed E. Rose, PhD., and team ran clinical studies at the Duke University Medical Center on the effect of black pepper essential oil as a nicotine cravings reducer (Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8033760/). They found strong results in reducing cravings through passive inhalation of black pepper essential oil. On top of the physiological aspects studied, black pepper also psychologically helps. When inhaled, black pepper has an earthy and warming sensation that replicates the sensation of smoking tobacco--helping to psychologically replace that craving.

Peppermint to Replace Menthols & Ease Withdrawal Symptoms

Peppermint is your best friend as a menthol smoker. Peppermint essential oil is great for opening your airways and providing that menthol sensation. This helps to counteract the onsetting cough that comes with quitting as your lungs go through a purge.

Peppermint is also great for decongestion, helping to ease the headaches that can come from nicotine withdrawal. Peppermint is often used in the fitness industry as a natural pre-work out for similar reasons!

Annnnnd, Peppermint is known to be a great natural aid for stomach pains.

Lavender and Cinnamon to Reduce the Pain of Quitting

As you step forward into a smoke free life, you may experience discomfort from the damage caused by prolonged tobacco abuse. Lavender and cinnamon have great anti-inflammatory benefits, helping to ease the pain of quitting while also adding relaxation benefits mitigating the stress of quitting.

Cinnamon, in its sweet aroma, also helps to psychologically reduce food cravings. So you can put the fear of gaining weight when you quit to rest.

I started using a traditional vape to quit smoking a couple years ago. After 12 months I knew I didn’t want to keep using a vape. I read about FÜM on social media and decided to give it a try. I loved it. I then spent 6 months slowly weening myself off the vape ( was down to 2mg by the end) and then went FÜM full time. I clearly had kicked the nicotine aspect of it but what I hadn’t kicked was the hand to mouth. The FÜM solved that for me. Great product.
