Aromatherapy - What Are Essential Oils?

In the most basic way. Essential oils are plant extracts. Not all plants produce essential oils, and in the plants that do, the essential oil may be found in the roots, stems, and leaves, flowers, or fruits.

Within plants essential oils often play crucial roles in plant health and function, such as in reparation of plant wounds, or the source of signalling odours. Once extracted Essential Oils have many other uses, including flavouring of foods, scenting of products, and healing properties. If a plant gets an infection, a cut, or is feeling "under the weather" (Pun intended) then its essential oil comes to the rescue! These oils remove waste from the plants, and work to be constantly protecting the plants, helping them to thrive!

Our chemical make up, mainly carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, is not that different from that of these plants. When we use a high quality essential oil that has been properly distilled, we can utilize the health benefits of these amazing oils for ourselves! Sound crazy? Well, people have actually been using essential oils for centuries to enhance their lives all that way back to ancient Egyptian and Biblical times!

As far as which specific Essential Oils you should use in your FUM, this is up to you. We advise you to read all labels, and if in doubt consult a healthcare provider when choosing which Essential Oils to use.

Some of our favorites include Peppermint, Eucalyptus, and Black Pepper for their bold flavours and fragrances and a wide array of benefits.
